Station X tells the true story of the remarkable achievements of the code breakers that helped win the Second World War. Their top-secret work was based at a Victorian mansion, Bletchley Park, 50 miles north of London. Here an extraordinary collection of 10,000 British and, later, Americans were assembled with the task of breaking German´s most secret, supposedly unbreakable code, the 'Enigma' cypher. Station X, the result of two years´ extensive research, gives the definitive account of their work. Many of the brilliant code breakers talked for the first time about their remarkable work. The series was filmed in Britain, Germany, France and the United States. No archive film was ever shot at Bletchley Park, so in order to tell this complicated story, the programme makers made extensive use of reconstruction, shot in the actual wartime locations. Station X received considerable critical acclaim when first shown in the UK. The audience was one of Channel Four´s best of the year, and the book of the series topped the best-sellers list. A two-hour version of the series was shown on the PBS series NOVA in November, 1999.
