So Blue, So Calm : The Prison inside

The space in a prison cell, the time a man has on his hands. Eight inmates reveal the worlds they have created behind the prison walls. How does a man withstand having his freedom taken away from his? The prisoner functions within the framework set up by the administration: handyman projects, inventions, makes decoration. He also looks inside himself to find his own rituals, which are surimposed to those of the penal institution. He escapes through his thoughts and his dreams. These eight puzzle pieces of prison life fit together in the communal areas of the penitentiary. Hallways, stairways, and traffic circles are all constantly bustling with traffic. Gestures and words are exchanged in a conventional rhythm. This film is a very personal essay. It does not pretend to give an objective look at the situation of prisons in France today. Eliane de Latour gives her vision after years and years of visiting prisons. Eliane de Latour is an ethnographic director. She has worked in various fields in Africa. She is today one of the most considered women documentarists in France.
