He is an ordinary teenager, exceptthat he does not go to school. His mother teaches himat home as he is almost blind. When his mother diessuddenly, Léon finds himself thrust into a new Latino-Quebec family, with a biological father he never knew.Léon’s father and his new wife live with their fourchildren in Montreal, far from the countryside thatLéon has known to this day. In addition to successfullymourning his mother – which will not prove easy, sinceshe had hidden so many things from him! – Léon mustintegrate into the Fournier-Espinoza clan and learn tolive with his new half-siblings. He also has to adapt to hisnew environment. He enters secondary school for thefirst time in his life, guided by the very intense Doris, who is top of her class and wants to help him so muchthat she annoys him more than anything else! At schoolhe meets Florence, a young girl with cystic fibrosis. Sheinvites him to share the premises of the ‘Zandicapés’(people with disabilities) and quickly, a great complicityis born between them. While Léon uses the image‘looking through the hole of a straw’ to describe hisvision, Florence has the impression of ‘breathing throughthe hole of a straw’.
