Sidia diop or the impossible assimilation

This Prince from the Walo regions remains unknown to many Senegalese and silence still reigns on him and his activities. After an insurrection in his land, he is sent to the capital, Saint-Louis; a brilliant student, the Governor Faidherbe adopts him and gives the boy his own surname: Léon. From then on, he will be integrated in the French circles and Léon will adopt the European manners to the point of being totally disconnected from his origins.The dramatic impact of the events are revealed through actual government films and recreations of actual events; slow-motion is used to give the viewer the experience of entering a high-radiation zone. A documentary style is utilized to learn the private thoughts of the men who were responsible for radiation containment at SL-1.SL-1 brings an awareness to the mysteries surrounding America’s first nuclear reactor fatal accident. It is a modern story of the consequences of nuclear radiation, and how man may be unable to deal with a major nuclear incident. The film focuses on the questions of a nuclear age and leaves to he viewer contemplating man’s vulnerability to nuclear technology, whether it is a small nuclear reactor in Idaho in 1961, or airborne nuclear warheads in the 1980’s.
