This Prince from the Walo regions remains unknown to many Senegalese and silence still reigns on him and his activities. After an insurrection in his land, he is sent to the capital, Saint-Louis; a brilliant student, the Governor Faidherbe adopts him and gives the boy his own surname: Léon.
