This thirty minute documentary follows an eighteen year old named Roosevelt Smith, as he tries to join any branch of the Armed Forces that will accept him. He wishes to be rescued from the dead-end situation of hanging around the city streets of Connecticut, without direction, and claims that all he needs is 2a little help to get up in the morning”. He is rejected from most of the branches of the Armed forces because of low test scores., but is eventually placed in the Army Reserves along with his brother. In basic training, in south Carolina, Roosevelt demonstrates his belligerence and lack of self-discipline. At graduation from basic training, his mother is overwhelmed and proud that her son has taken such a positive step to make something of himself. Shortly after-wards, Roosevelt goes AWOL and the Army and the filmmaker lose track of him.
