Seeds of hate

A four-part drama series about neo-nazism amongst youngsters: a strong, growing and painful development in several European countries. The storyline is centered in the emotional conflict within a middle-class German family. It develops into a road movie as the story takes the protagonists through Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands and France. The series was broadcast first in the Netherlands and subsequently in Switzerland, Germany and Austria. Ratings were reasonable but not high. Reaction was very positive in the Netherlands, but generally critical in Germany. The almost documentary nature of the film raised questions about the realism of the violence and of the dialogue mouthed by extremists. Some of the broadcasters received threatening letters and phone calls. The production was aimed primarily at teenagers and adolescents.
