Hoe do you create a drama whose structure is tied to a piece of music? Renowned writer-director Atom Egoyan (The Sweet Hereafter”, “Exotica”) answers that question in this complex drama. In it, a missed limousine, a master class, a doctor´s office, and a recitalo form a story structured to Johann Sebastian Bach´s Fourth Suite for the Solo Cello. It is one a series of six innovative one-hour programs which express Bach´s Six Suites for Solo Cello through the performing and visual arts. In “Sarabande” a character sets off five others who interact among each other without realizing links between them all. In other words, it takes on the form of the Suite. The man who provides the inspiration for the series, 42-year-old wunderkind cellist Yo-Yo Ma plays one of the characters in this mathematically plotted, enigmatic story. Individual scenes are played out in different environments, culminating in an intense and powerful drama which explores the effects of the mediated image in contemporary society and offers a glimpse at how music profoundly affects everyday life
