Salvation

On his death bed a Sikh father confesses to his son that maddened by love he not only forcibly converted his mother from Islam to Sikhism but also lied to her that her Muslim husband and daughter had been killed in the riots. He did all this to get her to agree to marry him. But this, the dying father said, had always weighed upon his conscience. Therefore, he asked the son to take his mother to Pakistan to meet her Muslim husband and her daughter. This comes as a blow to the son but in order to give Mukti (salvation) to his father’s soul he takes the mother to Pakistan and goes through strange emotional and cultural experiences.
