SAFE is a sixty-five minute BBC drama which takes a sensitive and honest look at the problems of young people coping with living on streets of London. Following two central fictional characters, GYPO and KAZ, the drama moves between the Emergency Cold Weather Shelter; the traditional central London street locations frequented by people sleeping on the streets; and the Day Centres trying to provide them with life-skills and advice. SAFE follows Gypo and Kaz for two days as they go about their daily routine of trying to get by without the luxury of a home and family to protect them. It is fast moving and funny, celebrating the humour and language of the street kids. It is also thought-provoking and forces the audience to try to understand the reality of life for the ever-growing number of homeless people they pass on the streets every day.
