The outskirts of Berlin, a former bus depot in an industrial area on 28 January 2003, something amazing is happening: 250 pupils from 25 nations are dancing to Stravinsky's 'Sacre du Printemps'. They have rehearsed for two months, trained by the British choreographer Royston Maldoom and accompanied by the Berlin Phiharmonic Orchestra under its chief conductor Sir Simon Rattle. The film follows the fascinating process leading to the spectacular performance, the most ambitious project in the Zukunft@Bphil (Future at the Berlin Philhamonics) program. From the first efforts at dancing made by youngsters few of whom had prior knowledge of classical music and expressive dance to the perseverance, affection and patience of the teachers and the rehearsals of the Berlin Philhamonic Orchestra. Through the eyes of three young protagonists we take part in the project's development. At the same time the film offers a thrilling portrait of the charismatic artistic head of the project, Sir Simon Rattle and of the choreographer Royston Maldoon.
