Prosthetics

The interface of medicine and technology has always been one of the foundations of science fiction. The fear of cloning, of creating new entities still somewhat futuristic. Today, medicine has to deal with limbless persons in more traditional, low-tech methods. This program encounters the producers of limbs in the very process of creation. Creation was heretofore the sole domain of the Almighty. What is the notion, the thought driving the production of a foot, an ear or an eye? What part does sophistication play, what is aesthetics´ measure - and how much is purely financial? The program introduces a different approach to research in a field where pity and discomfort are usually the sensations experienced by the unimpaired. The (mostly unimpaired) audience draws a great deal of optimism from the characters who are immersed in their own experience of limb loss.
