The subject of this film is Transvestism – or the compulsion that tens of thousands of men in this country share – to wear women’s clothes. Three men talk about the myths and realities of transvestism; of the effects of this greatly misunderstood syndrome has had on their lives and those closest to them. Raymond, a retired Ministry of Defence official, Roy, a university lecturer and Ben, a former naval lieutenant. The significance of the film is an attempt to solve the problem of presenting transvestites without being a) salacious or bizarre of b) being so detached that you lose all emotional contact with your subject. I.e. finding a way of dignifying a subject that is considered to be both undignified and threatening.
