The four series “Paris-Berlin” deal with the relations and contrasts between the French and the German culture. This film wants to show the interplay of influence and exchange of ideas. From this point of view Berlin seems to be a very particular place, it was the meeting-place and location of encounters in the twenties and it was the connection between West Europe and the Soviet Union. The film tries to revive the political, historical and social atmosphere of the tears from 1900 to 1933. This second Part turns towards the avant-garde of both countries and the corresponds and contradictions. It introduces the expressionist movement, the fauvism, the cubism and the performances of the Dadaists. We can find here too the part of Delaunay in the beginning of the abstract art. –The frame builds a Berlin cabaret, which is rebuilt in the Pigalle. The read thread running through all the four parts is the Berlin theatre group “Die Tribüne”, with songs of the famous Walter Mehring. – The film has entertaining parts and documentation parts, which are based on stock shots and interviews with contemporaries of yesterday and today.
