A camera team of “Spiegel TV” was at the Bornholmer Street checkpoint on the night of November 9th and documented the opening of the Berlin Wall. One year later, the same team returned and spoke with many of the border guards who had been on duty that night. In the film montage, which combines the “historic” material with the later interviews the true story of what happened that night is told: a couple of subordinate officers of the State Security Service opened the wall of their own accord and against explicit order from above.
