Niemann's time

Like Godard, Kluge and other contemporary artists, Kurnitzky and Schmid see collage as the most suitable art form for the reconstruction of reality. ' Niemanns Zeit' is made of fragments, both documentary and experimental. It is an attempt to reconstruct the German past. Niemann is a man searching for the homeland´s indentity who is preoccupied with finding out the truth about the period of National Socialism. This is the period no one wants to remember a repressed episode in the national consciousness, Quotes from the Romantic tradition of which the Nazis were fond and old postcards are used in the examination. The purely German 'Heimat' in which no place is left for the individual is term used ironically by the film´s makers.
