When only three months old Malin nearly died a so-called cot death. Although she survived, she suffered severe brain damage. Her parents resolved to make her as sound and healthy as possible, but this would involve both physical and mental training right round the clock. The parents have chosen a method developed by the American physiotherapist Glenn Doman. He has his own institute in Philadelphia. Malin´s mother decided to give up her job in order to train her daughter at home. The Doman method emphasize stimulation of all senses in the training programme which is both physical and mental, and every six months Malin and her parents go to Philadelphia consultations and further training programmes. NRK has monitored Malin and her family for three years, to find out how the girl has developed, and to discover the cost, in human terms, of a physical and mental training that demands continuous concentration every day of every week, all the year round.
