Leonardo da Vinci’s fresco “The Last Supper” shows the reactions of the twelve disciples at the moment when Christ has just said: “One of you is to betray me”. This very moment is the central theme of LEONARDON IKKUNAT, which is based on an original screenplay by Pirkko Saisio and combines the historical time when Leonardo was painting the fresco with present day Milan, where Maria and Marco are restoring this badly damaged mural, “the most important dying object in the world”. “ As the restoration work lasts twelve years it isolates Maria and Marco from any real life, and they start to live the lives of the twelve men in picture. Marco identifies himself with Phillip and takes his sufferings on his own shoulders. As seen through the fresco we see Leonard looking for his models, painting the fresco and being troubled with the themes of death and betrayal. He cannot find the right person to sit in the place of Christ and his mind is fascinated by the thoughts of the man who sits as a model for Judas.
