In a boarding kindergarten in Wuhan, China, we spent 14 months videotaping the life of a first grade class, a second class and a third grade class. Life in kindergarten is mobile. The growth of children is gradual and slow. Matters that appear everyday can be both trivial and significant because anything that happens in one’s childhood will influence a person almost all his or her life. A unit, a period of time and a pile of fragments of life in a person’s growth must carry something. When we bend over to examine our children, we have also examined ourselves and the whole world at the same time.
