Karate Kids

“Karate Kids” is an adventure cartoon. It’s action-packed, full of humor and excitement, and at the heart of it is the life and death reality of AIDS. Karate Hero is the street educator in the cartoon. He is like a big brother to Pedro, Mario, and their friends. He describes AIDS in the language of self defense, and his girlfriend Lisa tells the kids how to protect themselves from AIDS. The “Karate kids” cartoon is part of the “Survivors” project, and AIDS health education program for street children. It includes the cartoon, a handbook on AIDS for street educators, and a pocket comic book for every youth who sees the cartoon. Theses materials, along with health education training and technical support, are now available to community based projects, individuals, and institutions in all parts of the world.
