Parkinson’s disease is usually a personal catastrophe. This film asks what it’s like to be disabled with “the shakes”.Both the subject and the style of the film are unusual. The subject, Ivan Vaughan, decided to confront catastrophe not by fighting it, but by using it. And the style of the film is entirely unrehearsed actuality, with no story and no structure. With neurologist Dr. Jonathan Miller, we simply observe Ivan’s often humorous struggle to outwit his own tremor and perhaps glimpse an insight into our own “normal” existence.
