The time is Autumn 1945, in the Igloolik area of the Canadian arctic. Five Inuit families get ready for winter, building a sod house and ice porch to life safely through the coming months. Even here news of the terrible world war makes people uneasy and frightened. They talk of the danger of the unknow future, of shamanistic intervention to save their culture even as they practice the traditional life of their ancestors on their own land.
