When Diego Garcia returned to Colombia after years spent in Paris and Chicago he had but one idea in mind. He had to find a bed for his wife, Sally, who was at that time expecting their first child. The search for this bed soon led Garcia on an adventure into an unknown and disarming world within his own country. A unique, vital, unexpected, chaotic, tender, perturbing and wonderous Colombian odyssey. Out of this adventure came the idea for a documentary series: “Horizontal Colombia.” An incredible rollercoaster ride though an extraordinary country whose inhabitants share a love of life and will to survive despite the difficulties placed before them by an extremely harsh and unrelenting reality. “Horizontal Colombia” chronicles intimate moments from the lives of a variety of Colombians: native Colombians, whites, blacks, mestizos and mulattoes in their beds and hammocks, on mats in the wild, on cardboard boxes, on desolate urban streets or next to the omnipresent coffin. This is an unusual and fascinating view of the relationships and rituals officiated by these people using the various objects designed to satisfy their horizontal needs. “Horizontal Colombia” is an intimate portrait of a country.
