Histoires d'Amérique

On a waste ground in New York, near the Williamsburg bridge, some men and women – or perhaps ghosts – emerge from the darkness to tell us their stories, stories about having been uprooted and about hope. Jews from Eastern Europe; they have fled from poverty and from pogroms, abandoned their families and left behind them the old world, to come to America, the new world, das goldene land... Between the two worlds, and at the heart of the tragedy: humor, and the wild desire for life to go on... A documentary-drama which is like the dreamed memories of a film-maker.
