Harold of Orange is a comedy that explores the interaction of two cultural groups indigenous to Minnesota-American Indians and philanthropic foundations. Gerald Vizenor’s screen play draws on trickster myths of his Ojibwa tribe to create a contemporary satire which dispels Holly wood stereotypes and represents a people for whom humor is a means of survival. This is a political satire from a tribal perspective which shows how the balance of power can be upset, if only momentarily by acts of imagination. This is to the best of our knowledge the first American Indian film comedy.
