The film is about the religious motive of the Bolshevik Revolution in Russia, about how communist power was being built according to the biblical myths wherein Karl Marx was the Father-God who granted the Bible to the selected people - the proletariat. And Lenin should have played the role of the Saviour and should have resurrected. 'Gods of the Hammer and Sickle' is also an example of personal courage as the author of the film - Yuri Khashchevatsky risks prosecution in his own country.
