Joao Pedro Teixeira, farm leader of the Sertao Brasileño, was assessinated in 1962. In 1964 Eduardo Coutinho began to work on GOAT MARKED TO DIE , filming family, friends and associates of Joao Pedro. A month later the Brazilian military stages a coup détat. They confiscated Coutinho´s footage and imprisoned his crew. In 1981 he recovered part of the film, and returned to the scene in 1982-83 to investigate the tragic destiny of the farmers who participated in the project. The result is the film inquiry wich he presents both a reflection concerning the oppression suffered by the Brazilian farmers and a meditation over the passage of time and artistic creation.
