George Orwell is one of the key artists of twentieth century Europe. But, amazingly, there are no moving pictures of him nor any recordings of his voice. So this film creates its very own archive. Orwell's autobiographical writings are converted into fake clips of newsreel, interviews, film essays, home movies etc, that are then cut together to create a biopic in which he reveals in his own words how he scaled such heights of pessimism that he dreamed-up ‘1984’.
