“Full speed astern!” is a parody of popular Italian television. Higlighting with irony various television programmes such as game an quiz-shows where overly excessive sums of money are given in prizes, the intrusiveness of game show sponsors, the stereotypical show hosts, guests and the studio audience with exaggerated enthusiasm, etc. The programme is conducted by Renzo Arbore who assumes the role of “Admiral” and Nino Frassica as the wonderful and captivating host “bravo presentatore”. One of the most important components of this transmission is the emphasis on comical repartee, play on words and use of regional accents. Music also plays an important role with emphasis on popular songs from the 50’s and 60’s. An excessive parody on the festivities of Carnival with the television host and public mascerading as the opposite sex.
