October 1997. Franz Fuchs, the ’’Bombing Brain”, who for over four years attacked a number of people with letter bombs, is arrested after blowing off his two hands with his last bomb in front of the police. The programme deals with the most emotionalised crime in modern Austrian history, which led to four deaths and 15 seriously wounded people. Scharang follows the very well-documented story of Franz Fuchs exactly along the facts and sources, the hearings of Fuchs before his trial, and interviews the people involved in the political arena, the police and the court. Fuchs, who committed suicide after his life sentence, acted as a political right-wing extremist and as a ’’patriot.’’ The part of Franz Fuchs is played by Karl Markovics, who played Salomon Sorowitsch in the Oscar winning fi lm “The Counterfeiter” (Die Fälscher) and was nominated for an Emmy for his part in this film.
