Grete and Svein have lived together in sickness and health for over 50 years—until Grete is stricken with Alzheimer’s disease. As the illness develops Grete finds it more and more difficult to master everyday activities, however she hasn’t lost the ability to tell her story. Even though she is no longer able to perform such simple tasks as setting the table, she is still able to describe her feelings with strength and honesty. Grete’s courage and candidness makes our meeting with her both special and memorable. Her husband Svein can only watch as his wife slowly slips away. They looked forward to sharing their old age together, but that is not how fate would have it. How can he send his lifelong partner to a sanatorium after 50 years together? And how on earth can he explain to her why he must do it? We follow the couple—intimate and exposed—as they take us on a journey towards the inevitable. A journey of love and understanding, ridden with difficult choices and feelings of betrayal.
