First Person Plural is a one-hour personal documentary that chronicles the filmmaker´s experiences as an orphan from South Korea adopted by a white American family. Through a first-time journey to Korea with her adoptive American mother and father, the documentary reveals not only a personal story about mistaken identity, but broader conflicts and issues about the loss of culture resulting from assimilation and a pervasive American attitude towards immigrants and minorities. Through archival footage of Korea from the 1950s, 8mm home movies of the filmmaker´s American family and original material, the film reveals a story of cultural and moral contradictions and how one family attempts to reconcile them.
