This film shows a group of young offenders in a new light. The experiences they sing about are dark and intense, but the fresh approach of poet Simon Armitage and director Brian Hill with the music of composer Dextrous allows us to see them as much more than car thieves, robbers and burglars. It is a poignant reminder of the waste of such human potential, and hopefully may inspire them and others to take a different route, when they get out – “On the Road”, as they call it.
