Number three in a series of quickly written and quickly produced television plays on topics of the time. DAN TV is produced by the Drama Department and played by actors but the narrative technique is the same as used in news and documentary programmes. The fictitious staff behind DAN TV is only personified by the voice of the narrator. The subject was chosen because of a coming date in the Parliament on custody. In a way the play is a case-story: a desperate father had for some time contacted several media people – amongst whom the writer of the play – to draw the attention to he precarious situation of cohabitate fathers. His experiences form the base of the play but the writer has endeavoured to be fair to the parties concerned. Neither of them is “the guilty part” but lack of guidance and desultory trial render neither the mother nor the father capable of looking after the children. Is it possible to make “real” drama with human being in focus, not reportage or revue or comedy, on actual topics, written, produced and transmitted within a month’s time? We tried and very much wish to discuss the result with fellows producers and writers.
