On November 8th 1987, 11 civilians were blown up by an IRA bomb at Enniskillen´s Remembrance Day Service. In November 1991 the redesigned and rebuilt Memorial to the Fallen was unveiled in the centre of Enniskillen. Unusually it featured the 11 civilians who had no connection with the military or with war. The names of the 11 victims, although set apart from the names of soldiers from all other wars this century, reinforce the strong sense of grief that still exists in the town. An entire community was shattered by the blast, and this film allows friends, relatives, clergy, town councilors, the British Legion and members of the Ballyreagh Silver Band who always play at the Enniskillen Remembrance Day Service to tell the story of that day and of the weeks and years that followed. The film was shown as part of a series of films which took a different War Memorial as its starting point. The series was part of “War and Peace”, a season of films on the cost of modern warfare in Britain.
