Acclaimed animator Paul Fierlinger recounts the events of his extraordinary life in wartime America and communist Czechoslovakia in this unique autobiography, rendered in classic cel animation and incorporating family snapshots, charcoal sketches and water color paintings. As the son of a Czechoslovakian diplomat-in-exile during World War II, Paul spends five carefree childhood years in America. When his family returns to Czechoslovakia after the war, Paul´s idyllic memories of America sustain him through a painful adolescence at an elite boarding school. Nearly twenty years later and before the famous Prague Spring, Paul makes a daring escape to his idealized home, the United States.
