Dessie

Dessie is a social drama dealing with the problem of child abuse. The problems and desperation of a child-abusing mother are brought to life in a searing one act play. It is an intense drama of a woman’s attempt to regain custody of her child, giving audiences the unsettling experience of deep empathy for a very unsympathetic character. Dessie is designed to further public understanding of child abuse and neglect and help social workers and other professionals see the problems at home and work which often frustrate their efforts to assist abusing parents. The broadcast was performed live before a studio audience followed by discussion an phone-in.
