“Der Prozess” by Eberhard Fechner is a report on the trial against ex-guards of Majdanek concentration camp, held in Dusseldorf, Federal Republic of Germany, from 1975 until 1981. Madjanek concentration camp was build in the fall of 1941 on a site near the city of Lublin in Poland. At last 250.000 people were murdered there in gas chambers of by firing squad before the camp was liberated by the Soviet Army on July 23, 1944. Between 1976 and 1981 Eberhard Fechner interviewed more than 70 people: former inmates of the camp from Israel and Poland, ex-SS-guards who were on trial for the crimes committed in Madjanek, judges and attorneys, witnesses and historians. His film is a unique historical document on the darkest chapter of German history and it reflects the attitude of Germans of today who are confronted with these facts.
