The programme is designed to provide a platform for the Police to appeal directly to the public for help with unsolved crime. The progoramme is unusual controversial and innovatory. The format allows the public whilst the programme is actual y being transmitted, to communicate by telephone with the investigating officers int the studio. In this sense it might be described as the ultimate in inter-active television. In numerous cases now, wanted criminals have been arrested; not only as a result of information given to the programme, but in some cases whilst the programme has still been on aire. Some people welcome the programme as being public serviced broadcasting its best, and others not surprisingly are worried whether broadcasters should apparently unreservedly lend themselves to supporting police investigation.Nevertheless, although only a monthly programme, after then editions it had captured first place in the BBC’s audience ratings.
