A world-class series on the great photographers of our time (William Klein, Elliott Erwitt, Robert Doisneau, Raymond Depardon...). These films were made taking the following principles as a point of departure: the contact sheet is the photographer’s memory, his roadmap, an irrefutable testimony to his errings and his triumphs. Leafing through a photographer’s contact sheet is, in a sense, to accompany him in his quest for images, seeing what he has seen, at least for the span of a glance through the magnifying glass. As the film is being shot on the title-stand, the photographer gives his personal commentary on his contact sheets, according to his own taste and sense of detail, sharing with us the very essence of the creative process. The film we present deals with the work of Leonard Freed.
