Close Up – A Tragedy with a Happy Ending

Close up is the Danish contribution to the EBU exchange co-production series 1993 on racism. Ole and Mehmet are two perfectly ordinary Danish boys. They are both eleven years old, at the same school, capable of distinguishing among thirty one varieties of ice-cream and handling up to twelve good reasons for getting out of minding their little brothers or sisters. Ole and Mehmet are friends... but it won´t stay that way. Very soon an obstacle race will appear for Ole and Mehmet which may break up their friendship forever. All because of grown-ups´ bad habits and the fact that Ole´s parents were born in Denmark and Mehmet´s in Turkey. The story of Ole and Mehmet is told against a background experience related by a group of slightly older children who´ve had to star running that obstacle race.
