So far in the series small excerpts of a devastating pub bombing have featured which form the basis of the significant bonding between the men. In episode 5 during a party Frank´s drunken flashbacks are of operational incidents and reveal both the tyranny and brutality of the Paras towards the Irish people and again the tragic IRA pub bomb attack suffered by the soldiers. The bits of the jigsaw begin to fit together. When Harry learns that the two IRA members responsible for the bomb attack have been sighted in London he reminds Frank of their pact of revenge. Although the car firm is doing well and Susie and the kids are happier Frank is reluctantly drawn back into the violence by his old loyalties. Later at the “safe house” they discover the dead man is not their suspect; they´ve now committed murder. Financially Frank is also in trouble. Continued trips to the betting shop and increased spending before the money comes in have added to his debts. No one apart from him knows how bad things are.
