Breaking up

CIUTADANS (CITIZENS) is a series which is a portrait of today’s Catalan society through 500 in-depth interviews with people from every walk of life. The series has a sociological flavour, but it goes beyond the coldness and de-personalization of polls and surveys. The relevant matters to CIUTADANS are the shades, the why and how of our attitudes in everyday life. The bottom line of the series is a reflection on the values on which individual and social life are based.In every episode, 30 to 40 people with common trait are interviewed for at least 30 minutes each. Their voices (the series has no narration and no “expert comment”) are interwoven in the editing to create a “choral portrait” whose aim is to induce a process of self-reflection in the viewer.BREAKING UP is the first episode of the series, a sweet/sour reflection on marriage and couples through long conversations with people who are divorced or have split up.In CIUTADANS, reality is surprising and moving, but the tone is always respectful and avoids sensationalism and morbidness. In a period where reality-shows are dominating the prime time schedules (at least in Spain), we believe this series is a significant alternative.The series is aired in peak prime time on Wednesdays, right after the evening news and before the week’s main feature film.
