“Breaking Point” shows people seeking help from Relate, an agency that counsels warring couples. The BBC asked Relate to put up notices in their regional offices, asking for couples willing to be filmed in counselling. Trevor and Tracey replied, and the couple is shown in their sessions, at home. “Breaking Point” normalizes a new level of TV intimacy. It will have an impact of what television will now think is interesting enough for us to see. It will influence decisions made about whether someone is sad enough or mad enough or bother with, whether someone is giving enough away. If we´ve stolen something from Tracey and Trevor, they have also stolen something from us.
