BOOMTOWN was conceived in response to Reagan’s ·dipsy-doodle” speech, where he said that to blame the uncontrolled growth in military spending and the shrinking of the revenue base of U.S. fiscal trouble was “dipsy-doodle” thinking.BOOMTOWN counters the myth that a good old-fashioned increase in military spending creates an economic boom with the current feeling that the only boom we seem to be preparing for is a nuclear one.In BOOMTOWN Jules Feiffer’s double-edged song is set to electronic pop culture music. The visual form joins the quick, rough lines of Plympton’s drawings with the warm water colors of D’Antuono’s paintings. The result is a simple, powerful, visual force moving to a danceable, maybe even singable, score.
