Top secret records about a BW formation, “Unit 731”, were found in the United States this year. They contained detailed illustrated data on human experiments done by the Japanese Army in Manchuria, then a Japanese colony. Following the war, the U.S. learned of this unit and interrogated some of its members, hoping to gain possession of their experimental data, and promising immunity from prosecution for war crimes. The Soviet Union also learned from prisoners about the human experiments and attempted, unsuccessfully, to bring this up at the Tokyo war crimes trials. This program depicts the fierce struggle that went on behind the scenes of the Tokyo trials between the U.S. and the USSR regarding Unit 731.
