In 1915, a raw young Cavalry officer called Billy Bishop sails for England en-route to Flanders. He is disillusioned quickly by training camp and resolves to join the royal Flying Corps to escape from the mud. He meets and R.F.C. officer in a pub, who directs him to the War Office. After an interview with an elderly officer, he is offered an Observer posting. He is injured and, while in hospital in London, is befriended by Lady St. Helier who arranges a flying commission for him. At the Front, he becomes a successful, deadly and cynical killer. He meets the lovely Helene in a bistro – her attitude reflects his cynicism. Albert Ball, the flying ace, proposes a night raid on a German airfield. Ball is killed but Bishop flies the raid alone. He returns to Britain and is decorated by The King. In a postscript, he is seen as an elderly Air Marshall, exhorting new recruits in 1941. what is the significance of the program for input? A sophisticated mix of C.S.O., multi-pass playback and record, with Quantel scene changing, allows a one-man theatre show to be translated into a multi-character performance drama.
