'Better Dead Than Gay' pieces together the last six months of Simon Harvey´s life. Through a series of interviews with Simon´s family and friends, the documentary investigates what people think happened, and then gradually reveals – through the use of Simon´s letters and diaries – what really happened. What emerges is a sad and powerful story which shows the impossible position that the Christian Church has put homosexuals in, which examines how religious belief can be used to justify social prejudice, and which transcends the parochial story to argue persuasively the importance of accepting living with Difference in other people and in oneself.
