“The poetic representation of an adventurous life” is José Montes-Baquer’s description of his film about Heitor Villa-Lobos, South America’s most famous composer. Various elements combine to form a cineastic essay: the reconstruction of events in Villa-Lobos life, documentary material. The views of wellknown contemporaries and musicians (Arthur Rubinstein, Andrés Segovia, Aaron Copland, Mario Cravo, Mindinha Villa-Lobos), and above all the visual transformation of musical impressions. An entertaining chronicle of a musician’s life varying between fact and fiction I the setting of the Braszlian landscape, history and culture.The film was shot at the historical sites (Rio de Janeiro, the Amazonas –cities of Manaus and Belem) as a coproduction with TV 2 Culture, Sao Paulo. The Brazilian partners contributed 20 of their best actors, nearly 400 costumes and the treasures of the “museu Villa-Lobos” to this extensive projects as well gaining the approval and blessing of Dona Arminda, Villa-Lobo’s last wife.
