Classical music is exciting, surprising, and totally cool. Just ask our presenter. He knows nothing at all about it, but he loves It just the sorne. Anyway, soon he wiIl know all about it. He is setting off on a 13-week tour of the world of classical music. His motto is simple: “Hip-hop, trash and funk are great, but so ís Bach. So Iet’s get back to Bach.” Classical music boring? You must be joking. Classical music kicks ass! Like a real Belgian Tintin in classical music land, pop presenter Chris Dusauchoit sets out to interview musicians, conductors and enthusiasts, international stars and lesser gods, Flemings, Americans, ltalians - all of them passionately involved in music in their own way. It’s all you wanted to know about classical music but never dared ask for fear of being branded a cultural barbarían. lf Beethoven were alive todoy would he be writing rock’n roll? Was Gershwin jealous of lrving Berlin? Do you know the real story behind the castrati? Is it true that many Stradivarius violins are fakes? What is a concerto? Do piano duos argue a lot with each other? Are there any lefthanded conductors? Even viewers who claim to hate classical music watch it because the format of the program alone is enough to keep pop fans glued to their seats. It is filmned with a shoulder camera, supplemented by Chris’ own little camera, and the editing is rapid and vibrant. The 30 minutes of interviews, music excerpts and links race by at lightening speed. To call Back to Bach a snazzy program would be an understatement.
