At home alone –the story about the old people in Denmark, who built the country and who are now paying the bill themselves. All over the world the “Scandinavian Model” is praised as an illustration of a healthy, stable and democratic development of society. But Denmark can no longer afford the welfare society. Retrenchments “stay in your own home as long as possible” means that old, sick and lonely people spend their last years helpless in their own homes without seeing other people than professionals and people from the Red Cross’ emergency service, who help them dress, bathe, stool and other essential everyday doings. All the stories are reallife –there were no re-takings, no interviews, and the camera have followed professional people and voluntaries all over Denmark. The program, broadcast three times, caused stir in privative homes as well as in political parties, tons of reader’s letters in newspapers and new organizations who will fight for old peoples’ rights for proper care.
